The Incredible Things a Single Mom Did to Purchase a House of Her Own

Adele was a 25-year old single mom with 3 adorable kids, who were still young. Mitch was 9, Leo was 7 and Noelle was 5. Like any other mother, she loved her kids to death. That was the reason she decided to stay home and take care of them instead. The only problem was that the meager amount sent by her ex-husband was not enough for the needs of her fast-growing kids. But, she couldn’t ask for more money for the children’s maintenance because she knew her ex-husband was having financial difficulties too.

The finance office that Adele had previously worked for was willing to reinstate her, should she decide to work again, but she had refused.

“Why don’t you hire a babysitter?” her friend had asked her.

Nonetheless, she wanted to personally attend to the needs of her growing children because when she was a child, her mother was so busy, she didn’t have time for her, and it had affected her a lot. It gave her nightmares and cold sweats whenever she dreamt about it – the figure of her mom fading in the distance.

Noelle would be going to school the following year, and she planned to purchase a house through installment basis. The house rental was boring a humongous hole in her pocket. She needed to earn money to be able to meet these financial expenditures.

She knew that once she can own a house, she can be more financially stable to send her kids to school.

Despite all her hardships, Adele was always an optimist, believing in the adage: “If there’s a will, there’s a way.”

Thus, she tried selling, in her front yard, cold drinks during summer and hot snacks during the rainy season. However, the earnings were insufficient for her plans.

She then bought the basic necessities, such as tissue rolls, soap, shampoo – wholesale - and sold them per piece.

Her daily activity was to wake up at 5 a.m. prepare breakfast for the children; then take Leo and Mitch to school, with Noelle in tow. Sometimes, Noelle was still sleeping, so she would use a baby carrier for her.

People would stare at her with pity as she herded the kids to school, but she didn’t mind. She was happy doing things for her children. They won’t be kids for long, so I want to relish my time with them, she thought.

After taking the two kids to school, she would go back home and do the household chores. Afterwards, she would open her little store, while Noelle would play.

In the afternoons, she would close her store and fetch Leo and Mitch, with Noelle. She would then prepare dinner, while Leo and Mitch attend to their school assignments.

That was Adele’s routine every day. Although, she worked tirelessly, her earnings were still not enough for her projected installments for the house she had planned to buy.

Her merchandise didn’t click, so she changed it to a small clothing store. She bought 2 dozens of new clothing and sold them per piece. There were buyers but the sale was slow.

She was now overdue in her monthly rent, and the owner of the house had informed her that if she was not able to pay after two months, she would evict her.

Adele had headaches thinking of a way to earn money. On a weekend, when the kids were all asleep, she was absentmindedly surfing online when she chanced on a website that was inviting writers to write and get paid.

She excitedly browsed the site. There were no sign up fees and the rules were reasonable, so she signed up immediately. Her talent was in writing, and if it were not for her dad, she would have taken up journalism in college, instead of management and financing.

She had won various writing contests when she was in high school and in college, and that gave her the self-confidence that she could deliver as a writer.

She checked almost every hour to see if someone hired her, but after a day, no one had contacted her. She was growing desperate.

On the second day, her pulses quickened when he saw that there was an invitation for an interview. She accepted the invitation but told the employer that she didn’t have a Skype account.

“That’s okay,” the employer replied. “We can talk through this chat box.”

The employer was impressed by Adele’s answers to his questions, so he hired her for one job – an article about Stay-at-Home Moms.

Adele couldn’t help but grin from ear to ear because the topic was perfect for her. She could use her experience to lend flavor to the article. After 2 hours, she submitted the write-up. Her employer was impressed by her speed and the skilled way in which she wrote the article.

“This is excellent!” the employer typed. “Can you do 2 more articles today?”

Adele stood up and jumped in glee, “yes,” she shouted. Noelle stirred in her sleep, but the two older kids were fast asleep. It was 8 in the evening but Adele would still be working with her new employer.

Adele wrote the next two articles within 3 hours. They were perfectly written with no grammatical errors, and the writing was flawless.

The employer paid her immediately, with a bonus. It was obvious that he was extremely pleased with her work. She earned more than a thousand bucks in just 5 hours of work. Wow! She was unable to believe her good fortune. This is good money, she was elated.

“I’ll create another contract for an eBook,” the employer typed in the chat box.

“That would be great,” she replied.

“Can you finish it within a week? It will be a long-term contract, so you’ll be writing a new eBook weekly,” the employer disclosed.

“Yes, I would be happy to,” Adele replied. “Thank you.”

So, Adele earned money by ghost-writing. The payment was sufficient for her to be able to pay the landlord. Plus – she will be able to start installment for her house. She prayed work would keep coming.

It did. After a week, another employer contacted her to write for his blog. And then another, and another. She was now ranked as one of the Top Writers of the website. She was earning big money.

Adele eventually wrote books of her own and published them on Amazon.com. At first the books were not selling well, but gradually as her name became known, her book sales increased. She was earning as a ghostwriter, and she was earning as an author. It was an incredible stroke of luck.

On top of her success, she was able to take care of her children personally, attending to all their needs. She had always prioritized her children’s needs and wrote only when the children are asleep or when she was able to.

After a few more years, the house would be in her possession. She was grateful of the given opportunity to her and her children.

As she kissed her kids good night, she whispered, “Someone up there must love me.” She closed her eyes and fell in the arms of Morpheus.
